Run for Recess

Today the kids ran their first race. Playworks had a run to support their program and we raised money for the kids's school to support this program with this run. Aaron and the boys ran the fun run and I ran the 5 K. I was surprised that all three boys ran the whole time and they looked so happy when I cheered them on. At the end of the race, Angelo apparently got competitive with some kid near him and sped up while looking over his shoulder the whole time to make sure he beat him. Both kids said they want to run another race soon.

When asked what the best part of his day was today, Angelo replied, "the marathon." The worse part? Me not letting him have "a caffeinated drink" that came in his race goody bag.

Wake up the Earth

Today was also the JP Wake up the Earth festival. I always connect Ange's b-day to this event because 4 (!) years ago, I went into labor the day after it.

The kids rode scooters in the parade that starts out exciting but ends up being a death march for miles with a group from the school and we sold star wands as a fundraiser. After all that scootering, we finally got to the festival where the kids began their typical festival routine of asking for things urgently. Once all food requirements were met we did the usual, arts and crafts, running into of people from years and years of living here and then had to leave for a T-ball game.

Angelo is 4!

Angelo's b-day this year was all about Superman. You'd be surprised how little Superman stuff is actually available in the non-internet world. But we made due. We had a party for his school friends at our house on Friday, a sleepover with two Chateauneuf brothers, and celebrated Saturday with having friends over for dinner. Angelo's favorite gift was his Superman costume and card that plays the S-man theme song.
